White, Chalky, or Dry Dog Poop

A crumbly, white stool is unusual. Here is what it tells you about your dog's digestion.

Every dog is different. Stop guessing.

The exact texture and visual details matter. Upload a photo of the stool and get an informational, photo-specific report with visible cues, practical context, and signs that veterinary follow-up may make sense.

The most common cause: Too much calcium

Stool that turns white and chalky very quickly after being passed is almost always related to diet. Specifically, it means there is too much calcium or bone matter in the dog's meals. This is very common in dogs fed a raw diet containing high amounts of bone.

Risks of chalky stool

While not typically an emergency, excessively dry and chalky stool can lead to constipation or obstipation (severe constipation). It can be painful for the dog to pass and may cause minor tearing around the anus.

What to do next

Review their recent treats and meals. Have they had many raw bones or high-calcium chews? Reducing these items usually resolves the issue within a day or two. Ensure they are drinking enough water.
